The third joint workshop sessions of Ex Oriente Film by Institute Documentary Film in Prague, and the REFINERI programme of the Association UKUS from Rijeka, was once again successfully held in Rijeka, during the past week.

The  workshop was focused on the development of a total of 16 authors’ documentary films, of which 12 projects were selected by the IDF and four by Association UKUS.

In addition to 30 participants – directors and producers from Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Polish, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Canada, Russia and Croatian, Rijeka also hosted 14 their mentors, prominent European directors, producers and film professionals as well as numerous observer guests. The tutors were Mikael Opstrup, Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová, Filip Remunda, Iikka Vehkalahti, Lordan Zafranović, Jon Bang Carlsen, Nino Kirtadzé, Peter Kerekes, Ralph Wieser, Jan Gogola ml., Vanja Jambrović, Robert Zuber, Dalibor Martinis, Aleš Suk and Željka Suková, and the observers were Sabina Briški from Slovenian Creative Europe Desk, Miha Černec from Staragara Institute, Anna Zavorszky from HBO, Vilka Alfier from Fade In, Alessandro Gropplero feom When East Meets West market and Hrvoje Hribar from Croatian Audiovisual Center.

Most of the tutors held lectures open to the public, and Nino Kirtadze, Jon Bang Carlsen, Peter Kerekes and Lordan Zafranović showed their films in Art-kino Croatia and on beach Grčevo in Rijeka.

Association UKUS’ and IDF’s program is performed with the support of Croatian Audiovisual Center, Kultura nova Foundation, the City of Rijeka, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the MEDIA program of the EU, the Ministry of Culture and the Czech Cinematography Fund from the Czech Republic, and in cooperation with the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, Art-kino Croatia and beach bar Pajol.
