The oldest film festival in Denmark, Odense International Film Festival, recently screened a dokuficion “Marija’s Own” by Željka Sukova, produced by UKUS Association.
A great honor for “Marija’s Own” to be screened at this important European film festival has been enabled by famous Croatian actor with the Copenhagen address, Zlatko Burić who has chosen the film as one of his favorites. Burić is. among other, known for the trilogy “Pusher” in which he played the villain, together with Mads Mikkelsena, or of the “Dirty Pretty Things,” in which one of the main roles was played by Audrey Tautou.
“Marija’s Own” was presented on August 28 at the cinema Pejsestuen. The screening was moderated by one of the most famous Danish film critics Christian Monggaard. He recently made his figure famous when he joined the campaign of other Danish film critics who photographed themselves in ecstatic poses for a poster which was supposed to make an ironic remark to Von Trier’s campaign for “Nymphomaniac”. Monggaard, as he later said, was very happy to moderate the screening because “Marija’s Own”, in his words, “enchanted him.”
Odense International Film Festival was initially entitled the International Festival of Fairytales, in honor of the great Hans Christian Andersen who was born in Odense. At first, the festival presented exclusively animated movies but this changed in 1983 when the program started to include films of all genres.
In mid-September “Marija’s Own” was also screened at Slovenian Festival Ex Ponto, one of the most famous international festivals of contemporary performing arts in Southwestern Europe. It is well-known of its program that combines superb theatrical aesthetic, social and political relevance and permanently promotes international festival co-production.
