A year after the we guested him in Art-Cinema Croatia as a mentor of the Platform for support and development of hybrid AV creativity REFINERI, controversial Croatian director with Czech address, Lordan Zafranović, returns to Rijeka.
On 12th February, 19 o’clock, he will present his controversial documentary from 1993 “Decline of the Century: Testament L.Z.”, in Croatian National Theatre Ivana pl. Zajca. “Testament” is an epic documentary about the rise and fall of the Ustasha regime in Croatia. After the screening, Zafranović will be available for a Q&A.
“Decline of the Century: Testament L.Z.” (190 ‘, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France) is the author’s testament to the then dying 20th century. It focuses on one of the Croatian most controversial periods, the Independent Republic of Croatia (NDH) regime. The film is made of archive footage produced by “Hrvatski slikopis”, a NDH film company, which the author combines with footages from the trial to Andrija Artuković (interior minister in Pavelić’s government) and with a cross section of their own filmography, ending with the footage of the war in the 1990s.
The film will be shown in the new “films in the theater” programme called “Cinema Victory”, organized by the Association UKUS and the Croatian National Theatre Ivana pl. Zajca, due to the fact that in 2015 we will celebrate exactly 70 years from the end of the WW2. Once a month and ending with the 2nd of May and celebration of the liberation of the City of Rijeka, one documentary or feature film which deals with fascism will be shown. Besides the “Testament”, it will be mostly films that have not been shown in Croatia yet, but are important in order to introduce different perspectives to the phenomenon of fascism.
